DONATIONS
You CAN Always Give What You Want!

Donations for Animal Control
Be an Animal Rock Star!

Picture

If you plan on making a cash donation, we encourage you to specify how you would like it used. If you have something you would like to donate toward that's not on the list below, please contact us first so we can make sure what you want to donate toward is allowed. Thank you!

Ways your donation may Be used:
  • Canned cat or puppy food
  • Treats for animals at AC
  • Long lasting, tough toys to help occupy the dogs who must stay in cages
  • Leashes for volunteers to use
  • Kitty toys
  • Grooming Supplies
  • Paper towels for cage cleaning
  • Bleach and other cleaning items that are allowed at AC
  • Veterinary supplies requested or approved by Dr. Koan, the county vet
  • 2 new Pedestal fans to help circulate the air throughout AC.
  • New "Swiffer" type mop for Grooming Room for Volunteers to use for cleaning after each animal.

Wish List Items (must be approved by AC):
  • Easel Board to set up in the Lobby to feature Dog and Cats of the Week.
  • Another Kitty Condo cage
  • Washable (but not cheap plastic) furniture and kitty climber for the cat "visiting room" (Bubble Window Room)
Large Item Wish List (must be approved by AC):
  • Rubber cage mats so paws/toes don't get trapped in the bars and pads of animals' feet don't get bloody/sore. Must be able to disinfect to prevent harboring disease.
  • 3-4 Outdoor Dog kennels. Have galvanized welded wire and galvanized frame. There are no sharp edges, they won't rust quickly and they are harder for "Houdini" dogs to get out of. These would be placed  outdoors, within the fenced walking area. Dogs would be walked, then placed in a kennel while another dog was walked, allowing more time outside for each sweetie!  These are the brands that would hold up to AC use.
  • TK Products, LLC in Allegan, MI
  • Priefert Premier Kennels
  • Tarter Elite Kennel

Donations for Friends
Moving on Up & Out into the County!

When you donate to Friends, your donation can be used for any of the items on the wish list for Animal Control, but it also can be used to help AC and local animals in other ways.

For instance, $5 or $10 can go a long way toward helping get an animal into a Friends Partner approved Rescue (read about the Rescue Partners here). This has been something that Friends has done since it's formation, with the funds coming out of our own pockets for years. Now, thanks to generous and caring people, we no longer have to pass the hat at our meetings!

That doesn't mean we're not frugal with our money. To date, over 95% of donations are used for animals, with the remaining amount used for non profit supplies such as business cards, flyers, website name and hosting. Members usually purchase ink cartridges and paper products themselves as they're needed.

We are an "all volunteer" non profit. We don't have an office, the money that would pay the rent would most likely deplete our donations in a few months. We'd rather help the animals and clutter our home offices!
The animals in this slideshow are just a few of the lucky ones we've been able to get to rescue with YOUR help. Many we forget to snap photos of.
Ways your donation may be used for Friends:
  • Donations are combined with other donations to assist in the purchase and vetting of GCAC dogs and cats that have rescue. Monetary donations to Friends means you can specify which type, breed or individual animal you would like to help. Friends does not usually help individuals purchase animals from AC. We find it's better to interview and work with qualified rescues for this.
  • Friends has taken in several local animals who have been found abandoned or neglected and turned over to our Rescue branch. We pay for all vetting and, in the past, have fostered these (and AC animals), until they were adopted. I'm sure many remember Jonah, The "Stump Puppies", Mary (left tied at the end of a Friends' members' driveway, pregnant, 2 days before Christmas).
  • Occasionally, Friends is able to assist Genesee Co families with food or vetting assistance for their animals. In the future, we will be focusing on keeping animals from ending up at AC, and are hoping to start a local Food Bank for Pets,  help other agencies with spay/neuter/low cost vaccine clinics and more.
  • We'd like to purchase some enclosed cabinets for the grooming room at AC, as all things  on the open shelves tend to get a bit dirty when grooming dogs.
  • Friends uses donations to pay for all vetting of the many animals we've had within our rescue branch. Right now, we still have many cats and kittens looking for new homes and a few dogs too. All are up to date on all vetting and looking forward to finding their special place in your heart!
  • Friends has purchased a ton of food for AC and delivered it, we're hoping to do so again. We also would like to contribute to the kennels that are very much needed at AC.
