Sophie was rescued June 25th, 2011

Picture
This is Sophie.  Gorgeous, huh?  This gorgeous girl has made many friends! Sophie is safe
from the elements of the weather but not out of the woods with her health.  She is being treated
for heartworms.  The treatments are costly but this girl is worth it! Patch's has lived a horrible life
outside and needs to have that chance of a wonderful life!  Our goal is to help her in every possible
way that we can.  Some say she has lived outside for as long as 2 years.

Last November Patch's was seen in a parking lot and her new friends were determined to help her.
When they approached her she ran.  Little did she know, we were determined to help and made it a goal
to get her into a safe environment.  This poor girl was scared of everything.  People give her leftovers so
she could survive.  With no indoor shelter we are so thankful she did not freeze to death.  Sophie's friends
were dedicated and made sure she was given dry dog food, fresh water and McDonald's 3 times a day.  Finally she decided we 'were' her friends
and we were not going away.  In time she allowed us to pet her chin.  Next she enjoyed an ear massage.  One day she rolled over and realized
belly rubs felt pretty good!  Her rescuers were able to get her into their car.  First stop was Riverside.  Next stop was My Groomer's Pet Salon.

Beautiful Sophie enjoying life

Picture
Look at how beautiful Sophie is!  She has made many friends and so many people love this girl!  She is an
amazing young girl.  Can you believe that this pic is the same dog?  The best part is her face.  Look at that smile!
She is happy and very loved!  She has some habits such as her food schedule.  It took us 7 months to rescue
her and she was used to the McDonalds pancakes w/sausage, sausage biscuit w/egg for breakfast.  Lunch was
approximately at noon every day and dinner at 5.  Sophie is very smart.  She has not had any accidents in the house
and loves attention.

Can you see that we LOVE this girl?

Glacier abandoned in a foreclosed house

Picture
I was reading lost and found ads one evening and come across one that stated
a golden retiever had been wandering the neighborhood and needed help.  He
had been see for several months.  Glacier was hiding in a wooded area.  He had
access to water from a creek and a gentleman burned wood in a large fire pit and
give him the scraps.  The man tried to rescue him but he was afraid of people.

The story was that the family that owned him abandoned him and a couple other
animals.  The mortgage folks come out, opened the door and the animals escape.
We knew this was Glaciers home because he would walk to that house daily.  When
the neighors tried to capture him, he ran and hid in the woods.

It took a lot of patience but Becki and i caught him. We were in knee high snow
following his tracks twice a day.  We fed him and let him know we were there to help
and were not giving up. I took this photo of him just after we captured him.  His feet
were frost bit, nose was raw and bleeding and he needed vet care.  After his vet give
him the ok he was quickly adopted.

Jonah the day that FRIENDS (FGCAS) volunteers found and saved his life!

Picture
Jonah was tangled behind GCAC.  An FGCAS volunteer heard wimpering in the woods while she was outside walking
a shelter dog now known as Hero the little doxie.   Another volunteer went outside and heard the same wimpering.
Volunteers ventured in the woods following the cries and what they found was a dog tangled up against a tree.  He
was so tangled he could not even sit down. The pic to the left is what they found.  He had a mans belt, choker chain,
red cable tie out and part of a green cable tie out all embedded in his neck.  It happens so often that people just drop
off dogs in the parking lot.  This is so cruel.  Had he not been found he would have died a slow painful death.

Jonah was taken to Riverside where his vet did a surgery to remove the objects.  Can you believe he wagged his tail when
he was getting ready for surgery?  He knew he was safe.  He spent many days at the vet office healing.  Once he was healed
pretty good he went to Key Lore Kennels and learned basic commands and how to just be a dog.

Many people applied for Jonah.  Jonah had a few requirements.  One was a patient family that would have a lot of time to spend
with him.  Two, a fence was a must.  Many applied for him and had no fence or they had an underground fence.  Look at that neck?
There is no way an electronic collar could go on his neck.  Third was someone that was willing to help him to be the best dog ever.  We  found the perfect family.  Jonah
has 2 large dogs to play with, a big yard, a family that loves him, and he is learning what life is like living as a happy dog.

To read more on this gorgeous dog, visit his facebook page.   His facebook is titled simply,
                                                           "The Jonah Experience."

Phoebe found in a secluded area near woods, left to die

Picture
This is beautiful Phoebe.  Someone or people were not very nice to this pretty girl.  She was chained to a fence and left to die.
The area she was in was in a secluded area next to woods.  With the grass long she was barely visible.  Her complete body was
peppered with bug bites.  Most likely ants and whatever else.   How can people be so cruel?  By the look of the area she had been
there at least 2 days and this was one of the hottest days of summer.  It only took minutes to gain her trust with food.  Once she
was unchained her tail started wagging.  She knew that she was saved!

The first stop was to My Groomer's in Flushing.  Lisa bathed her and helped sooth her itchy skin.  Next stop was to Riverside Vet.
The vet said she was most likely sprayed in her eyes with a chemical because they were very swollen and her eyes were going in an
outward direction.  The put her on meds and monitored her health for the night.  The next day Phoebe went to live with a foster family.
She wagged her tail so hard it bled!

Phoebe a few days after being rescued

Picture
This is Phoebe just a few days after she was rescued.  Look at that sweet face.  Phoebe is looking for a home of her own.  She has
been spayed, up to date on vaccinations and is on hw preventative.  If you would like to adopt this pretty girl just contact us at info@fgcas.info.

Phoebe needs to be the only pet.  She is a doll with her people but does not care to be with other animals.

Evan day 1

Picture
Evan was rescued after living many days in a business parking lot.  He was eventually captured.  Evan will require surgery to have his back
leg removed.  His leg had been dislocated and it healed that way.  He weighed 4.5 pounds when found and his litte spine was sticking out.

Evan in his winter coat

Picture
Evan's foster dad took him shopping for a coat to keep him warm.   This little guy is an absolute doll!
