Agenda for First Meeting, June 7th, 2007

 

Present:

                       

Introductions:  Becki Williams, Howard Farley, Lisa Boyd of FGCAS

                        Lloyd Gerhardt, Carol Gillespie of Genesee County Animal Control

 

Purpose:         I.  To discover what volunteers can do to help the shelter.

A.      What items can be donated to the shelter?

B.     What immediate needs does the shelter have?

C.      

 

II. To ask for a tour of the shelter either today or in the near future.

 

 

III. To show our desire to establish a close, working relationship between AC and   FGCAS based on respect and the desire to help with their struggle against     

     animal overpopulation in our county.    

 

 

IV. To learn:

  A. The procedure for admitting a stray and owner surrender.

  B. The length of time for stray hold.

  C. Policies for evaluating animals who could be moved to the adoption room.

 

 

V. Adopting:

  A. How to adopt a pet.

  B. What the potential adopter should do if the animal is still in the stray hold?

 

 

VI. Rescues:

  A. What is required for a rescue in order for it to be able work with the shelter?

  B. Can they list someone to pick up animals from the shelter in their name?

  C. Explain the 5 day “hold for public adoption” and is it for each animal?

        D. Does AC contact the rescue if the animal is not adopted in the “hold” time?

IX. To alleviate any concerns regarding our volunteer group and it’s mission.

 

 

X. To list possible solutions:

  A. Increasing adoptions

  B. Spay/neuter programs

 

 

XI. To discuss AC’s concerns about roadblocks that may be encountered using such solutions to reach our goal of reducing the amount of animals they have to euthanize.
